Before joining Litson, Matt served as deputy general counsel for the Tennessee Department of Health, where he led a team of attorneys and subject matter experts across the disciplines of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, healthcare facilities, medical laboratories, and emergency medical services. In that role, he advised, collaborated with, and litigated for internal stakeholders, elected officials, and market participants on complex issues involving healthcare, medical cannabis, and life sciences.

Matt also has extensive experience drafting legislation and corresponding regulations for various healthcare professionals’ practice acts. His combination of regulatory insight and legal skill allows him to navigate intricate state and federal structures on behalf of those who deliver healthcare.

Matt also leads Litson’s hemp, cannabis, and alcohol work. He guides hemp and alternative-product companies through state and federal compliance and helps restaurants, bars, and beverage makers secure liquor licenses and resolve enforcement issues.
